Google Maps Brings Real-Time ETA ‘Journey Sharing’ to iOS

  • Google Maps makes it easier to share your ETA with loved ones

Today they are rolling out an enhancement to their location/trip/'journey sharing' feature that makes sharing each trip quick and easy right from the navigation interface.

You can send your ETA on iOS or Android.

To enable the feature, you must tap on the "up arrow" button and then on "Share trip progress", after you have started navigating to a destination on the app. Added to Android devices over a year ago, it allows users to not only share their current location, but also your travelling route until you reach your destination.

Google Maps is one of the mainstays of Google's stable of apps and services and certainly one of the best performing and most updated. The improved trip sharing feature is similarly available for bicycling and walking. After sharing, your chosen contacts will be able to watch your progress in real time via Maps, and then sharing automatically ends. You can also stop sharing manually as well.

Third-party app support is now on the table, with Google Maps bringing the ability to share your journey within Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, CityMapper, and other apps.

With journey sharing, you can easily share your location with friends and family as you are travelling.
