The unsend feature has been live on WhatsApp for a while now and it was only about time that Facebook brought it to the Messenger. The social networking giant revealed to TechCrunch last week that the feature was still being worked on, and now, Twitter user Jane Manchun Wong has managed to test the feature with a prototype build. Apparently, a long-press on a message shortly after it's sent will kill it, though there's seemingly a limit on the number of messages you can retract.
On Friday, Facebook declined to say when the feature will actually arrive, but it remains in the works, a company spokeswoman said.
The Facebook unsend feature came into the picture when the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg was able to delete the message from the inbox of the various recipients in the month of April this year.
After choosing to unsend the message, users will be asked to confirm their action, with Messenger notifying them that the message will be removed from the chat for both the sender and recipient. The Delete Message option only deletes the sent message from the sender's end. As of now, Messengers users are only able to delete their messages via the inbox, with the sender/recipient will be able to see the message in their inbox. So, basically, this feature follows the same principles of the "delete message for everyone" option in WhatsApp.
At the moment, it seems that it is only possible to delete messages for a short period of time and messages are then deleted from the inboxes of all participants in a conversation. This isn't the first time Facebook breached its user's trust. With this feature, users could revoke a text if they wish.
Mark Zuckerberg caused controversy around six months ago. nothing odd for Facebook you may think. With the redesigned Messenger app, Facebook is looking to get rid of unnecessary features in favour of something simple, more meaningful. The newly found evidence shows the new feature is in the making.
