Democrat-Backing Taylor Swift Stays Political At American Music Awards

Taylor Swift exhorted Americans to "get out and vote" in the forthcoming U.S. midterm elections as she broke Whitney Houston's record as the woman to have won the most American Music Awards.

Explaining her decision to wear the slinky number to the AMAs, Hudgens told Entertainment Tonight, "It's classic, it's chic, and I'm here for J.Lo, so I figured that was the way to go". It's the midterm elections on November 6. "Thank you guys so much, I appreciate it", she concluded while two guys stood on each side of her.

While accepting the award for artist of the year, Swift once again urged fans to vote during the upcoming midterm elections.

The "Look What You Made Me Do" singer's post, however, may have spurred a spike in voter registration. "A majority of new registrations since Sunday have been from people between 18 and 29 years old", the group said in a release Tuesday. If you believe in equality for women, for people of color, for the LGBTQ community. At this point, 5,183 have registered in Tennessee, compared to 2,811 for September. Instead of a mark on her record, she took home the first award of the night: Favorite Artist - Rap/Hip-Hop. "I'm even more excited about the next chapter". Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape.

"Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values", she said.

The American Music Awards isn't the only award X has received recently either. Despite having the year's top-selling album and three No. 1 hits, Drake didn't win a single award.
