Kavanaugh is the second justice Trump has successfully nominated to the Supreme Court, following the confirmation a year ago of Neil Gorsuch to the seat left by the late Antonin Scalia.

The 15 complaints, related to statements Kavanaugh made during his Senate confirmation hearings, were initially filed with the federal appeals court in Washington, where Kavanaugh served for the last 12 years before his confirmation Saturday to the Supreme Court.

Roberts' letter was sent to Judge Timothy Tymkovich, the 10th Circuit's chief judge. The spectacle, in which more accusers and corroborators came forward, nearly derailed Kavanaugh's nomination.

Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court fired the starting pistol for the final sprint to Election Day, with control of the House and Senate at stake.

"Say it loud, and say it clear: Kavanaugh's not welcome here!" they chanted, dressed in long red robes and white hats in temperatures slated to reach 80 degrees.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner, the president explained there are "amazing people" on his Supreme Court list, but he refused to abandon Judge Kavanaugh.

Each federal court has a so-called "judicial council" to investigate conduct complaints and make disciplinary recommendations.

It's possible the complaints will never be investigated if the lower-court judges determine the judiciary's ethics rules don't give them jurisdiction over a Supreme Court justice.

The first public word of the complaints came Saturday when D.C. Circuit Judge Karen Henderson acknowledged that complaints about Kavanaugh had been filed. Details of the complaints have not been made public. Then-president Barack Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland, but Republicans used their majority to prevent Garland from even getting a Senate hearing.
