Brooklyn Nine-Nine is saying goodbye to one of its stars.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor addressed Peretti's departure Wednesday on Twitter. He said in his own statement that he and Mike Schur eyed Peretti for her role as Gina from the very beginning.
It's time for Gina's opinion, but you might not like it.
Chelsea Peretti, who has portrayed Gina Linetti for the past five seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Fox, will exit the show during Season 6 - but she will probably return as the character in future episodes. "But that doesn't mean I won't ever be back, winky face emoji, heart emoji", Peretti wrote. Dan Goor tweeted that "from the moment Mike Schur and I chose to create this show, we wanted Chelsea Peretti to be part of it, and she always will be".
Goor admitted that hatching an exit plot for the "amazing, hilarious, unique" Gina has been a challenge. She continues, "confident, idiotic-but-smart, pithy, and infused with rhythm and cell-phone radiation".
'We have tried really hard to create a storyline for her departure that lives up to the character that can only be described as "The human embodiment of the 100 emoji". There's no word yet on where or when we can see Peretti in other film or TV projects, but we can only imagine she'll be providing her fans with updates on that soon.
Catch Gina's final hurrah when Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for Season 6 in the midseason on NBC. Also, I know for a fact, this isn't the last we'll see of Gina Linetti.
Thankfully, she won't be gone for good, writing on Twitter that the news "doesn't mean I won't ever be back".
No specific reason was given for Peretti's departure, but she was absent for a chunk of the show's fifth season when the actress went on maternity leave.
Peretti has been on the beloved sitcom since day one, playing apathetic office assistant and general shot-caller Gina Linetti.

The area where the character is at looks to be something of a " Star Wars " version of America's old lawless wild west. So far, there have been no casting announcements for this new series, but it has lined up a few big time directors.
