Butler doesn't plan to miss regular season games if not traded

Jimmy Butler might have to unpack his bags. But that doesn't mean he's suddenly happy about where he is.

Now, with the use of full Bird rights, Butler is eligible to sign a maximum five-year deal worth approximately $190 million, which is why his initial shortlist of preferred trade destinations included the Nets, the Clippers, and the Knicks. However, proposed changes from Minnesota created a "breakdown" in negotiations, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

In fact, it appears Miami may be the only team Minnesota is negotiating with, as they're focused on completing a deal. Dieng is owed $15.2 million in 2018-19, $16.2 million in 2019-20, and $17.3 million in 2020-21. Butler has missed all of the Timberwolves' preseason practices and games to date while he recovers and from offseason wrist surgery and waits for the team to honor his trade request. In addition to the Heat, the Houston Rockets have also been aggressive in their attempt to acquire Butler.

Butler has previously made it clear that he wants to be traded to Miami. According to a league source, Minnesota's asking price to trade Butler is high.

Though the preference is to keep Richardson, Goran Dragic, Bam Adebayo, Kelly Olynyk and Justise Winslow, the Heat likely would need to relinquish at least one and possibly two of those in a trade for Butler. "The Kings are without their first-round draft pick in 2019 and uniquely positioned to leverage that cap space into, at a minimum, a future first-round pick and maybe more as part of a Butler blockbuster".

Butler averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.0 steals in 59 games for the Timberwolves last season.
