2nd Russian blamed for Skripal poisoning named as GRU doctor: Bellingcat

The second Russian who Britain says was responsible for the poisoning of former double-agent Sergei Skripal was a military doctor for Russia's GRU military intelligence unit, investigative website Bellingcat said on Monday.
The man, who used the alias Alexander Petrov to travel to the United Kingdom, was unmasked as a trained military doctor employed by the GRU - Russia's military intelligence agency.
The passport of Dr Alexander Yevgenyevich Mishkin, the man that Bellingcat have alleged was who travelled to Salisbury under the alias Alexander Petrov.
The website had earlier identified Ruslan Boshirov, the first suspect, as the GRU's Anatoliy Chepiga.
Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found slumped on a public bench in Salisbury, and the case prompted the biggest East-West diplomatic expulsions since the Cold War.
The poisoning of Skripal, a former Russian agent who was convicted of spying for Britain, became a major worldwide incident.
Bellingcat said its "identification process included multiple open sources, testimony from people familiar with the person, as well as copies of personally identifying documents, including a scanned copy of his passport".
"In the period 2011-2018, Alexander Mishkin travelled extensively under his new identity".
London police force said it will not comment on speculation regarding the real identities of the men charged with poisoning of the Skripals.
The poisoning of Skripal, a former Russian agent who was convicted of spying for Britain, became a major global incident.
"Based on the body of intelligence, the government has concluded that the two individuals named by the police and the Crown Prosecution Service are officers from the Russian military intelligence service, also known as the GRU", British Prime Minister Theresa May told parliament at the time.
The group said it would provide forensic evidence and other information it used to conclude Petrov was Mishkin on Tuesday.
But investigative journalism site Bellingcat has dug into the backgrounds of "Petrov" and "Boshirov", and says it has identified both men's true identities and that they work for the GRU.
They explained that they went to the small town as tourists and had always wanted to see its tower.
