"Five people died due to falling trees and a wall collapse", Disaster Management Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh D. Varaprasad told Reuters, adding drinking water shortages were a concern in many places due to electricity failure and generator outages.

The system is now moving northeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal across Odisha and it will weaken gradually, it said.

Cyclone Titli tore into coastal areas of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh states with winds of up to 150km/h (93mph).

As cyclone "Titli" entered the land mass, some districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri, are receiving good amount of rainfall coupled with high speed wind.

Several hundreds acres of crop were destroyed across Andhra Pradesh as Cyclone Titli made landfall in neighbouring Odisha on Thursday.

Around three lakh people from low laying cyclone vulnerable areas of coastal districts have been sheltered at 1112 relief camps.

"The process of landfall has started and it will completely cross the Odisha coast in one or two hours".

Districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday.


It also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for Kandhamal, Boudh and Dhenkanal district from Thursday.

During the next 18 hours, it will intensify further and is likely to move north-northwestwards to cross Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast.

The Odisha weather department in its early morning bulletin has said that strong surface wind is likely to bash 16 districts of Odisha from 4am to 8am today.

Maritime ports of: Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep local warning signal no 4 hoisted.

Fishermen along the coast and central and north Bay of Bengal have been advised not to venture into sea till Friday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday reviewed the cyclone situation.

Around 300 motor boats have been arranged to assist in rescue operation as there is a likelihood of flood situation due to possibility of heavy rains till October 11. Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, who attended the meeting, in his address to media said units of NDRF, ODRAF and fire services personnel have been deployed in vulnerable districts. He ordered for provision of adequate relief materials to the affected and needy.
