White House adviser admits Trump got his facts wrong in economy tweet

But Trump is correct on his numbers this time, the GDP for this quarter is up 4.2 percent after only 2.2 percent growth in the first quarter of 2018.

On Monday, one of Trump's economic advisers attended the White House press briefing to push back against the Obama arguments.

Of course, anyone paying attention at all during Obama's tenure in the White House knows this is peak absurdity; Obama himself frequently fomented hatred and division based on race, gender, economic status, and political ideology. "And, usually, the answer is he doesn't have an answer", Obama said then.

"What is true it is that it's the highest in 10 years". I'm sorry for the mistake, but no apologies for the 700,000 jobs for African Americans created under President Trump'.

"I have to kind of remind them, actually", he said in an address in IL, "those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016".

The Council of Economic Advisors apologized online and took the blame.

"It was 100% my fault and I apologized immediately", Hassett said, hand over his heart.

The acknowledgement of the inaccurate tweet came at a briefing where press secretary Sanders faced a series of questions about the president's claim that Bob Woodward's book 'is a scam.' But Sanders said the White House did not plan to produce a point-by-point rebuttal of claims in the book it said were false.

From a White House that coined the term "alternative facts", admissions are rare and apologies even rarer.

Jared Bernstein, who served as chief economist to Vice President Joe Biden in the Obama Administration, said Trump's deficit-financed stimulus and tax cuts likely boosted growth in the short term. But, as Mallin pointed out, Obama never mentioned the GDP.

Asked if Obama ever said that, Hassett pleaded ignorance. "I guess I have a magic wand". It last happened in 2006.
