  • Vikings fear for star who allegedly threatened hotel shooting

According to the report, staff at the hotel moved into a back office at one point as Griffen paced around the lobby and threatened to assault hotel employees if he wasn't allowed into his room.

Vikings security chief Kim Klawiter told police that Griffen wasn't "acting normal lately" and that "it's nearly like he's having a nervous breakdown". When Griffen reported to the team facility for practice Saturday, he was sent home.

Griffen was said to have broken into the home of a fellow player after he left the hotel.

According to the a report filed by Minnetrista police Sgt. Michael Kokesh, Vikings development director Les Pico told him that Griffen had been "struggling for weeks" and had been "explosive, screaming and yelling at the workplace".

"We just want to be supportive and help however we can, make ourselves available", quarterback Kirk Cousins said. He said he was uncertain whether the team offered additional resources to Griffen beyond demanding an evaluation before he returns to the team facility. Later, Tiffany received a call saying that Griffen had showed up at the home of Vikings cornerback Trae Waynes, shirtless.

Turns out, he went to a nearby gas station where he saw a man he recognized - but did not know well.

Pico told police that Griffen, 30, has not done or said anything that led the team to believe that he is a danger to himself or others.

Everson got into the man's passenger seat and ordered him to drive around. When the police arrived, they found Griffen outside the ambulance walking on the side of the road with his hands in the air.

The police met Griffen at his home shortly after he was dropped off, where he agreed to go to the hospital.

Griffen, who didn't play on Sunday, was eventually located by authorities and put into an ambulance after being restrained by police so medical personnel could treat him. The focus now is on Griffen's mental health.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman issued a statement that read, "We are aware of the situation involving Everson Griffen and certainly concerned by what we have heard".

The Vikings further addressed the situation Tuesday in their first time in front of the media since reports of the incident broke.

When asked afterward why Griffen wasn't on the sideline, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said the ninth-year player and three-time Pro Bowl pick was dealing with a "personal matter".

A league source told ESPN's Josina Anderson that Griffen is "getting assistance on personal matters" and that the league is "comfortable he has a good support system around him".

While Zimmer said that this type of support role isn't his area of expertise, he said the team will extend a "very, very good support program".
