  • Vikings' Everson Griffen undergoing evaluation after incident

The Minnesota Vikings said they are concerned about the "well-being" of defensive end Everson Griffen, who did not play in Week 3 and was listed on the injury report Monday. Griffen was seen pacing around the lobby of the hotel and a dispatcher said the suspect warned he would shoot someone if staff didn't let him into his room, KSTP-TV reported.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman provided KSTP with a statement, saying: "We are aware of the situation involving Everson Griffen and certainly concerned by what we have heard". However, there is no indication a gun was ever present, according to the report.

Various media outlets, quoting unnamed sources, say Griffen was involved in the matter, although the Vikings have not offered any explanation or made Griffen available.

Though he had already been ruled out of the game due to a knee injury, the circumstances behind his absence led to plenty of questions. "We are certainly focused on Everson's well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family".

The Vikings themselves have since released a statement indicating that they're concerned about the incident in question and anxious about what is being considered a serious personal health-related issue.

Drafted in the fourth round out of USC in 2010, Griffen was arrested twice in three days in Los Angeles during the offseason after his rookie year. The first arrest was for public drunkenness and the second came after he failed to produce identification after being pulled over and attempted to elude officers on foot. He was one of the NFL's sack leaders last season. He's coming off three straight Pro Bowl seasons. He logged a career-high 13 sacks previous year.
