  • Trump Calls Kavanaugh Accusations ‘All False’ in Rambling Press Conference

The president was asked about whether he might be persuaded to withdraw Kavanaugh's nomination. "I have never done that to her or to anyone".

President Donald Trump answers questions in a NY press conference.

But he also described Judge Kavanaugh as a "great gentleman" and said he was sceptical of the claims against him, based on his personal experience of being the target of "false statements" made by various women in the past.

The results were sent to counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee by Ford's attorneys in advance of Thursday's hearing, when both Kavanaugh and Ford will testify about the allegations. "They have been seared into my memory and have haunted me episodically as an adult", she says in her eight-page opening testimony obtained Wednesday by USA media. Dianne Feinstein of California, asked how she could be sure that Kavanaugh was the attacker, Ford said, "The same way I'm sure I'm talking to you right now".

In fact, more than a dozen women came forward during the 2016 campaign, claiming they were assaulted, groped or kissed without consent by Trump. Trump didn't specify which four women, but mentioned an incident on an airplane, which indicated that one of them was Jessica Leeds, cited in one of the Times stories.

'The standard of character and fitness for a position on the nation's highest court must be higher than this. Should the effort fail, the party would likely explode in finger-pointing that could have implications in the November elections.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, the Judiciary Committee's chairman, said the hearing will go forward as planned and that the panel's staff is looking into Swetnick's allegations. They hope for a roll call by the full Senate - where they have a scant 51-49 majority - early next week with the aim of getting him on the court as its new term begins.

"I was pushed into a bedroom and was locked in the room and rush onto a bed", she wrote. "And no, I've never done anything like that". "I spoke to somebody 38 years ago, and it may not be good, '" Trump said, adding, "The people that have complained to me about it the most about what's happening is women".

She says she was the victim of a gang rape in 1982 at a party attended by the judge.

That left senators to decide whether the long day tipped their confirmation votes for or against Trump's nominee in a deeply partisan fight with the future of the high court and possibly control of Congress in the balance.

Mr Avenatti is also representing Stormy Daniels, the porn star who signed a hush agreement over an affair with Trump.

Kavanaugh himself has repeatedly denied all the allegations, saying he'd never even heard of the latest accuser and calling her accusations "ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone".

"I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school", Blasey Ford will say.

Republican Judiciary committee staffers on Wednesday were trying to interview another woman, Julie Swetnick.

"If we brought George Washington here, the Democrats would vote against him", the president said.

"We're dealing with an anonymous letter about an anonymous person and an anonymous friend", he said.

Kavanaugh is being challenged on multiple fronts by his accusers, former classmates and college friends.
