Three teens shot at Chicago school

Three people were seriously injured with they were shot near a South Side high school.

According to reports, the trio was outside Chatham Academy High School in Burnside. Assistant Principal Tony Lyons told WLS-TV that students "are taught that if they're in the area and they have an issue to come back to the school for a safe haven".

The 16-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his left shoulder and remains in critical condition, while a 17-year-old was shot in his left leg and is also in critical condition.

The shooting occurred about four blocks from where a 21-year-old man was shot earlier in the day.

Authorities say a man and two teens, ages 16, 17 and 18, were taken Monday to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

One person of interest is being questioned by police.

Police have taken two people into custody for questioning, but no arrests have been made. A gunman walked out an alley in the 800 block of East 89th Street and shot him in the neck just after 1:30 p.m., police said. Both were transported to local hospitals in critical condition.

The 19-year-old was shot in the left hip in the 10000 block of South State Street, according to police. The third victim's condition had stabilized.

The shooters opened fire near 91st and Cottage Grove.

Police have yet to determine whether this was a targeted attack or whether it was linked to a number of other shootings in the city on Monday.
