Springboks beat All Blacks at home

  • New Zealand's shock defeat to Springboks gives everybody hope ahead of Rugby World Cup

This was the All Blacks' first loss in this season's competition.

The Springboks crossed twice more and stood firm under their own posts as New Zealand pushed for the winning try.

Aphiwe Dyanti 2, Cheslin Kolbe, Willie Le Roux, Malcolm Marx tries.

"All we wanted to do today was just give our best, give 100 percent for each other and make sure the guy next to you respects you after the whistle", Springboks captain Siya Kolisi said after the South Africans held out the world champions with 14 men for the last 10 minutes.

However, New Zealand's Codie Taylor and Ardie Savea crossed from lineout drives to set up a tense finish.

I think our reaction in this video says it all.

"Throughout the week‚ we focused on not switching off at any moment in the game because if you do that they will pounce on you‚" he said.

Instead Steve Hansen's side found themselves under vast pressure for long periods, as the Springboks fed off their mistakes to score five tries, and tackled themselves to a standstill.

Dyantyi‚ who is widely regarded as one of the hottest properties in world rugby‚ brought the Boks back into the game after they went 12-0 in the 21st minute and he helped South Africa pull away to 36-24 in the second half.

Cheslin Kolbe, a second half replacement for Lukhanyo Am, was next on the scoresheet with an intercept try which was converted by Pollard as the visitors stretched their lead once again to 14 points.

Despite being virtually camped on the Springboks' line, however, they were unable to breach the green wall, eschewed the opportunity of a drop goal and were denied when le Roux forced Damian McKenzie to lose the ball in a tackle. It will probably win them the World Cup.

"Credit to the coaching staff - they have kept calm and haven't put pressure on us".
