  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9 explodes inside woman\'s purse in New York

Since the infamous Galaxy Note 7 recall two years ago, a phone Samsung pretends it never existed, we didn't have any battery incidents involving Samsung handsets. Chung cites losing her contacts, the contents of her bag, and the traumatizing experience in her lawsuit that also calls on the ghosts of burned Galaxy Note 7s in 2016.

At first, her Galaxy Note 9 "became extremely hot", court papers reportedly reveal.

Stop us if you've heard this one before: A NY woman is suing Samsung after she claims the company's Galaxy Note 9 smartphone started smoking and caught fire inside her purse.

According to the Post, real estate agent Diane Chung has filed a lawsuit against the company after her $1,000 phone burst into flames while inside her purse. Soon she heard a whistling and screeching sound, and she noticed thick smoke.

Chung says she became "extremely panicked" because she was alone in the elevator. Sensing that her shiny new Galaxy Note 9 was starting to get hot, she put it in her bag as she rode an elevator of a Bayside building. The company is facing a lawsuit that claims its latest flagship device spontaneously caught fire inside a NY woman's purse earlier this month.

A person grabbed the burning Galaxy Note 9 and dunked it in a bucket of water.

She explains the whole incident to be "traumatic", and mentions in the lawsuit that the fire ruined everything that was inside her bag. The Korean smartphone company, however, said that it had not received any reports of such incidents and was probing the matter.

The New York Post also confirmed that the woman wants Samsung to pay for all the damages including her purse and her belongings.

Prior to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9's release in August, the company's mobile head, D.J. Koh, assured consumers that the device's battery is "safer than ever". He said that the engineers at Samsung are confident of its safety, and that users do not have to worry about batteries any more.
