The motion passed the by Los Angeles City Council with a 13-0 vote on Tuesday, August 4 will limit scooter companies to 3,000 devices each within the City.

Backers say scooters are convenient public transportation.

Rather than hire third-party contractors, Lyft will have full-time employees on the ground in Denver to recharge scooters and redistribute them around the city.

The City of Fresno issued a cease and desist notice to Bird Ride Inc., owner of the Bird electric scooters, stating the company has until September 9 to remove their equipment from city streets.

"It will cost $1 to unlock, plus 30 cents a minute thereafter", Mr Swanson says.

The City of Norfolk has impounded the scooters until officials can have a meeting with Bird.

Lyft has jumped on the electric scooter-sharing bandwagon. You can only use them during daylight, though, as the scooters will be disabled outside of the hours of 6:00 am and 8:00 pm. "In light of the council's approval, Lime will obtain a conditional use permit to allow more of its affordable e-scooters and bikes to be available for local residents to use".

The city of Beverly Hills recently banned them for six months, while Santa Monica last month created a 16-month pilot program which caps the number of scooters allowed on the streets. They'll also have the opportunity to launch another 2,500 in low-income neighborhoods, and up to 5,000 more in pockets of the San Fernando Valley. According to Bird, the company now deploys 8,000 scooters throughout Los Angeles and estimates place the number of Lime scooters in a similar range.

Both companies say, despite being known for ridesharing, they see enormous potential in electric scooters and bicycles.

The new regulations require companies to equip the scooters with a minimum 48-point font warning against riding on sidewalks.

On Friday, the university issued a statement on behalf of Executive Director of Governmental Relations Lawrence Salinas, stating "We respect the City of Fresno's position and want to ensure that all applicable operating permits are in place and will await further guidance".
