Tottenham Hotspur's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris faces a fine and a ban after being caught driving in London at more than twice the legal drink-driving limit.
Tottenham keeper Lloris, 31, was charged and bailed following a routine patrol stop in the early hours of August 24.
The Spurs goalkeeper provided a sample containing 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
The 31-year-old was doing 15mph in a 30mph zone and had veered his auto "toward parked vehicles" before correcting himself.
When officers stopped the vehicle, they found vomit and said Lloris had to be helped from the auto.
"I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters".
France's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris avoided jail but received a 20-month driving ban and a £50,000 ($65,000) fine on Wednesday for drink-driving in central London.
Lloris, meanwhile, captained France to World Cup glory during the summer, with Les Bleus putting on a string of remarkable performances that culminated in an impressive 4-2 victory over a strong Croatia side in the tournaments final.
"Just 40 days later, he was arrested".
David Sonn, the lawyer representing the player in court, says "the spectacular fall from grace is not lost on Mr. Lloris".
"Drink-driving is completely unacceptable".
Lloris was spectacular during the World Cup and gave up no goals in either France's tough quarter-final match-up against Uruguay or their semi-final against a risky Belgium side. "I made a mistake, I have to accept it".
The club stated that they would deal with the "extremely serious" matter internally.
