  • According to Down Detector the outage appears to have started around 4:48 p.m.. Users reported having issues logging into the service posting comments and viewing

Users of Facebook's most popular apps have complained about not being able to access some of the company's products on social media on Monday, before the service was restored.

The problems began on late Monday afternoon NY time when people in the United States, Europe, and other parts of the world reported being unable to reach Facebook.

Facebook showed an error message for some users on its site: 'Your account is now unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Make sure you're connected to the internet and try again'.

"Due to a networking issue, the temporary outages occurred", Facebook Inc. said in a statement.

Users encountered similar problems while accessing Instagram and WhatsApp, both platforms owned by Facebook.

WhatsApp users reportedly said they could not neither send nor receive messages on the app.

"Earlier today, a networking issue caused some people to have trouble accessing or posting to various Facebook services", an AFP report quoted a Facebook spokesman as saying.

Another Facebook outage on July 17 struck users across the globe. "We're sorry for the inconvenience".

"Checking twitter for #Facebookdown after nothing will post, minutes after putting a post up that someone disagreed with, so thinking I was banned", one user posted a message.
