President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping demonstrated their cooking skills on Tuesday after their talks in Russia's eastern city of Vladivostok.

"Let's conclude a peace treaty before the end of this year, without any pre-conditions".

These were occupied by the old Soviet Union in 1945 but have always been claimed by Japan.

"If North Korea does something toward denuclearization it expects reciprocal steps and not endless demands for full disarmament", said Putin.

"I don't want to comment on what President Putin said", Suga said at a regular briefing in Tokyo. "It is not a joke".

"It seems that this would facilitate the solution of all problems which we have not been able to solve during the past 70 years", Putin added.

"Let us walk together mindful of the questions, 'If we don't do it now, then when?' And 'if we don't do it, then who will?'", Abe said.

"Both countries are trying to signal: If the United States pushes too far, we are going to move closer to each other", Alexander Gabuev, chairman of the Russian Federation in the Asia-Pacific Program at the Carnegie Moscow Center think tank, told the Washington Post.

The Japanese prime minister said the two countries "have a duty to future generations". "It is called trolling".

He suggested Abe would never accept a deal that would be political suicide.

But a Japanese government spokesman said the country's stance had not changed.

Prime Minister Lee thanked President Putin for Russia's support towards establishing permanent peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, and said that the South Korean government was doing its best to implement what was agreed in June, between Presidents Moon Jae-in and Putin, including the "nine bridges" of cooperation between South Korea and Russian Federation. During a visit to China in June, Putin made a Chinese pancake, which Xi tried.

Sushi, of course, would be on the menu if he and Abe finally end this 70-year-old stalemate.
