  • Josh Gordon Released by Cleveland Browns

Despite Gordon's breathtaking amount of red flags and off-field issues, there should be plenty of receiver-needy teams eager take him up on his postscript offer.

Gordon, who returned in December from a three-year suspension for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy, was expected to play a key role on a new-look Browns offense this fall.

Though Gordon is set to be released Monday, there still is a possibility the Browns will be able to trade him.

The Browns have informed wide receiver Josh Gordon they will release him Monday.

Josh Gordon's tenure with the Cleveland Browns will likely go down as one of the most riveting, mercurial and ultimately tragic sagas in the city's colorful sports history, but that doesn't mean the wide receiver hasn't seen his last National Football League snap.

Gordon returned to the team days prior to the preseason finale after spending almost a month tending to those personal matters.

He wasn't wrong as soon after Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Gordon was being released by the Browns.

The sources reported that Gordon was told to not to make the trip to New Orleans for Sunday's game against the Saints.

Additionally, Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reports that Gordon showed up late to the facility on Saturday and was described as "not himself", which the Browns believed was a sign of a potential relapse. In 2014, Gordon was suspended for the whole year, but it was later reduced to 10 games. Through six seasons, Gordon appeared in 41 games, hauling in 130 catches for 3,106 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Gordon was a second-round pick by the Browns in the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson had said in mid August that he never lost trust in Gordon.
