  • Shooting at Alabama McDonald’s leaves 1 dead, 4 wounded, police say

The university has about 30,000 students.

According to the Auburn News, police responded to the McDonalds located at the 200 block of West Magnolia Avenue at approximately 2:24 a.m. for a call of shots fired.

The McDonald's parking lot and a section of West Magnolia Avenue was taped off, the Opelika-Auburn news reported.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a 20-year-old male from Tuskegee, Alabama, killed by gunfire.

Officials say a 17-year-old male and 19-year-old female from Opelika along with a 21-year-old male Auburn University student from SC were injured and taken to a hospital in Opelika with non-life threatening injuries. The 16-year-old victim apparently suffered "serious injuries" from the gunfire and was air-transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia.

Also shot were two males, 16 and 17, and a 19-year-old woman - all from neighboring Opelika - as well as a 21-year-old Auburn University student from Hilton Head, South Carolina, according to police. Early information indicates that a fight happened just before the shooting.

Auburn police say the shooting does not appear to be random. No description is immediately available and officials say there is no indication of an active threat, but the public is urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity. No suspect information has been released.
