Northern England, parts or Ireland and southern Scotland are all most likely to feel the brunt of the heavy storm.

Irish weather experts have issued a warning as the tail-end of Storm Ernesto is set to blow in across the country this weekend, bringing heavy downpours and humid temperatures.

The storm formed in the North Atlantic near the east coast of America on Tuesday (14 Aug) and has since been travelling across the ocean at around 40 miles per hour.

When Ernesto reaches the United Kingdom, it will no longer be classified as a tropical storm but is still likely to cause heavy downpours on Saturday night and Sunday morning. The system should merge with a frontal zone this weekend and bring some wind and rain to the UK. Belfast is forecasted for a peak temperature of 19C.

However, there is some uncertainty over the path the former storm will take.

However, the south of England is not now set to be impacted by the storm.

Some rain, mist and low cloud will develop in the morning, but it's set to be brighter during the afternoon and evening in most places, with some sunny spells developing.

Stronger winds and a band of rain are then forecast in Northern Ireland, Wales, North West and South West England.

A spokesperson for The Weather Channel said: "A cold front now affecting the United Kingdom and Ireland will sweep south-westwards across north-western and central Europe over the second half of the week".

Looking ahead to next week, however, warmer weather is expected to return throughout the United Kingdom, sending temperatures rising above average into the high 20 and 30Cs.
