  • President Donald Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen appears in front of members of the media after a closed door meeting with the Senate Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington

Michael Cohen, President Trump's former lawyer who has been under investigation for tax and bank fraud, reportedly accepted a plea arrangement with federal prosecutors in New York Tuesday.

President Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen leaves court in April. He operated as a broadly-defined, do-it-all problem solver, once describing his approach toward Trump enemies as, "I'm going to come at you, grab you by the neck and I'm not going to let go until I'm finished". Cohen's attorney, Lanny Davis, gave CNN a recording of Cohen and Trump discussing a "cash" payment to McDougal two months before the 2016 election.

Investigators have also been interested in whether Cohen violated any campaign finance-related laws by helping arrange payment deals to secure the silence of women who claimed they had affairs with Mr. Trump.

Under a plea bargain reached with federal prosecutors, Cohen, 51, could get about four to five years in prison at sentencing December 12.

He was also told that there is a plea agreement between the defense and the prosecution.

Not long after that news broke, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was found guilty of five charges of tax fraud, two charges of bank fraud, and one charge of "failing to file a foreign bank account".

Paul Manafort has been found guilty of eight charges relating to tax and bank fraud.

The confirmation comes after it emerged earlier Tuesday that Cohen's legal team was in talks for a possible plea deal in the financial fraud investigation against him. Trump branded the raid "a witch hunt", an assault on attorney-client privilege and a politically motivated attack by enemies in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood on Tuesday publicly filed an order that was signed Monday, ending attorney Michael Cohen's effort to bar as privileged some items seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in April raids on his dwellings.

Cohen's then-lawyer called the use of search warrants "completely inappropriate".
