He just played better in the decisive moments.

A confident Tsitsipas sent a blistering forehand to the back corner while the ninth-seeded Serbian was heading the other way on his first match point, looking at his box in disbelief.

Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas has sent Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic packing in the third round of the Rogers Cup in Canada with a stunning 6-3 6-7 (7-5) 6-3 win.

"It was a good match, a very positive victory for me over a tough opponent", Nadal said.

The 19-year-old forced the former world number one Djokovic onto the back foot in the first set but was unable to wrap up a straight-sets win as the 13-time Grand Slam champion claimed the tiebreak with the Greek firing long having saved two set points.

Djokovic, coming off his fourth Wimbledon title last month, fired seven aces and never faced a break point to oust Polansky from his hometown tournament.

World number one Nadal, who kicked off the evening session a little over an hour after its original start time, had some issues with his serve later in the match but still needed only 74 minutes to secure his spot in the third round.

"Of course I was not at 100 percent today", Nadal, 32, told reporters. "Just happy to be in the quarterfinals".

A win for Djokovic would set up a potential quarter-final clash with German second seed Alexander Zverev, who advanced to the third round after a 6-4 6-4 win over Bradley Klahn.

Sixth seed Marin Cilic continued his quiet progress, beating Argentine 11th seed Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-2.

Stefanos Tsitsipas produced a moment of magic following a lung-busting rally during his sensational upset win against Novak Djokovic at the Rogers Cup on Thursday.

"I feel physically pretty well".

"I'm happy to see Stan playing well again". Dimitrov, who last reached a quarter-final in April, added: "Clearly I'm not playing my best tennis, but I'm finding a way and managing to go through those matches".

Also, Karen Khachanov of Russian Federation beat 12th-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 6-4, 7-6 (3); Ilya Ivashka of Belarus topped American Ryan Harrison 7-6 (5), 6-4; and American Frances Tiafoe edged Canada's Milos Raonic 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-1.

Del Potro, who had a bye in the first round after reaching the Los Cabos final last week, was set to play Robin Haase of the Netherlands.
