New Chelsea FC signing opens up on playing under Maurizio Sarri

  • Sarri will face Huddersfield in his first Premier League game as Chelsea manager

Eden Hazard also produced a lively cameo after coming on as a 76th-minute substitute, creating Chelsea's third goal, rounding off a near flawless start to life in English football for Sarri, who had predicted that his team would encounter problems with results and performances in the first half of the season.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri looks out from the sidelines during the Premier League match against Huddersfield, at the John Smith's Stadium in Huddersfield, England, Saturday Aug. 11, 2018.

Huddersfield showed their spirit by continuing to attack and striker Steve Mounie headed against the post after Mathias Jorgensen had flicked on a corner.

"Great way to start the new season".

N'Golo Kante got Chelsea up and running, with a cool Jorginho penalty doubling their lead before Eden Hazard came off the bench to tee up Pedro for the third. You can see his first Chelsea goal by clicking here.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC's website, he said: "I think I will be able to adapt and I find his style, his ideas and how he likes to play very attractive".

"In certain moments in the game, we have to improve to defend in the other half, to press especially against three defenders", Sarri said.

"This is understandable after this good first half and you sit at half-time and you are 2-0 down". Jorginho will clearly be the key, the expert at quickly shifting the ball that Sarri knows well from Napoli. Sometimes describing the Frenchman as a defensive midfielder - even if that has been his primary role so far for Chelsea - feels like his extensive talents are being underplayed.

Of the three in midfield, Ross Barkley on the left looked the least effective. In the first line, we defended not like we wanted to defend.

When asked how long it could take for his players to be at their best, Sarri surprised many with his response. We have to improve in this month, then it might be hard with the national teams.

"We had the chance for the equaliser, but we hit the underside of the bar and this is what happens".

This game was against a side who will be challenging for a Champions League place - at least - so is not the most representative test of Huddersfield's aims.
