The celebration - held outside the Flat Rock Assembly Plant where the auto is now manufactured - featured 60 Mustangs from various eras, neatly arranged to display "10,000,000" when viewed from above. That vehicle, with a serial number ending in 001, was purchased in Canada in April 1964 by an airline pilot named Stanley Tucker, who gave it back to Ford in exchange for the 1 millionth Mustang in March 1966.
During its 54-year production history, the Mustang was built in San Jose, California, and Metuchen, New Jersey, as well as at the original Mustang production facility in Dearborn. There's good reason for the specifications, too.
FOX 2's Josh Landon was there as the ten millionth vehicle drove out, a 2019 Wimbledon White GT V8 six-speed manual convertible.
"Fifty-four years ago I bought a auto, (and) we're still talking about it", said Wise, who bought the baby blue Mustang for $3,447.50. The first serialized Mustang off the line also carried a V8, but its transmission had half the forward speeds and just 164 horsepower.
More than 60 owners gathered at Flat Rock to celebrate the occasion, while a trio of World War Two P-51 Mustang fighter planes performed a flyover.
A parade of Mustangs from 1964 to the present day rolled into the parking lot at the Dearborn headquarters before making the 30-minute drive - complete with police escort - to the Flat Rock complex.
"Mustang is the heart and soul of this company and a favourite around the world", said Jim Farley, president of global markets at Ford.
The latest Ford Mustang offers an extensive array of technology and performance, the pinnacles of modern engineering showcased with Ford's 2019 Mustang Bullitt.
Now in its sixth generation, the Mustang received a mid-life facelift in 2017.
It's not all been smooth sailing, however.
The Ford Mustang is by far the most iconic muscle auto known to mankind.
But don't go looking for the 10 millionth in showrooms.
