Fitbit’s Charge 3 is a smarter fitness tracker for $150

  • Fitbit announces Charge 3 fitness tracker, coming this October for $150

Fitbit's been hitting the smartwatch market pretty hard over the past few months with its Ionic and Versa, and following those two wearables, the company's now going back to revive one of its most popular fitness tracker series with the all-new Fitbit Charge 3.

"Charge 3 gives existing users a compelling reason to upgrade, while also allowing us to reach new users who want a sleeker, more affordable wearable in a tracker form factor", said Fitbit co-founder James Park in an announcement today about the device.

Fitbit isn't giving up on fitness trackers just yet.

A rundown of what users can expect from the new device makes it sound like it's straddling the line between a fitness tracker and smartwatch, which can't help but be a good thing.

The slowdown hasn't deterred Fitbit from improving its Charge fitness tracker, though.

In fact, the Charge 3 nearly has more in common with Fitbit's Versa smartwatch, which was released past year.

The Charge 3 will have access to the Fitbit watch face store, with faces customized for the screen of the Charge 3.

An inductive button is present on the left of the Charge 3, allowing for the swim-proofing as well as the larger battery.

There's also a lot more you can do on the display.

Smartphone notifications also extend to the ability to answer and reject calls, app notifications from the likes of Facebook and Uber, as well as Quick Reply functionality for Android users coming soon. Pricing starts at $149.95 for the base model and goes up to $169.95 for the Special Edition. There's no on-board music, and there's no way to control your music while it's playing from your phone.

Beyond its health features, meanwhile, the Charge 3 also lets you get numerous things done you can also do with a smartwatch, like customizing and viewing call, calendar, text and smartphone app notifications.

And in terms of battery life, the Charge 3 now offers up to seven days of juice on a single charge, up from five days on the Charge 2.
