England v India: Rain delays start of second Test at Lord's

Most of England was in the grip of a heat wave over the past two months and it seemed like the Indians would get to start the Lord's Test with conditions similar to the sub-continent. While the weather continues to play tricks at London, it is not all gloom and doom for the Indians.

England lead the current five-match series 1-0 after a 31-run victory in the first Test at Edgbaston last week.

James Anderson (90) is six scalps away from becoming the all-time leading wicket-taker in Tests between England and India (Bhagwath Chandrasekhar, 95); he also needs six dismissals to become the first bowler to take 100 Test wickets at Lord's, he'd be only the second player to claim that many at a single venue (Muralitharan at three different grounds).

On the other hand, England will be without Ben Stokes and the all-rounder is likely to be replaced by Royal Challengers Bangalore star Chris Woakes, who was named in the squad for the second Test.

Asked about the prospect of playing two spinners, he said: "Walking in here, the pitch looked really hard, it's obviously dry". Any Test match we are playing, we are competitive.

"I think it's going to be an all-round wicket".

There was a lot of talk about the inclusion of seamer Jamie Porter ahead of the first Test but Captain Root preferred Sam Curran and the player delivered a Man-of-the-Match performance.

They will, however, make at least two changes to their side.

It will also be interesting to see if Cheteshwar Pujara will be called back to the side or not after being left out for the first Test.

India were dismissed for under 300 in their first innings at Edgbaston and then failed to chase down a target of 194 second time around, being bowled out for 162 after Kohli made 51.

But Arun said Jasprit Bumrah was "out of contention", the paceman still sidelined after missing the first Test with the broken thumb he suffered during a Twenty20 worldwide against Ireland in June.

As for India needing more runs from their batsmen, Arun said: "If you look at the (Edgbaston) scores, it's only Virat Kohli and Joe Root who have been able to contend with the moving ball".

"The conditions were trying".

But he was wary of playing an extra batsman at Lord's.
