Set in a valley at the foot of the Italian Alps, Villar Perosa (population: roughly 4,100) is the home of the family estate and summer retreat of the powerful Agnellis, who, apart from a brief period around the Second World War, have run Juventus since 1923 and established the traditional alpine curtain raiser.

After being given an extended break due to his exploits at the World Cup, Juventus fans were able to witness the first glimpse of the 33-year-old in action wearing the famous black and white strip.

Come the half-time whistle, Ronaldo shot off the pitch - followed by one ambitious fan who had to be held off by security after dashing towards and trying to hug his new hero - and towards delirous fans waiting near the dressing rooms, for whom he patiently signed autographs and posed for selfies.

It has become a tradition down the years for fans to storm onto the pitch, marking an end to the match.

Ronaldo is expected to make his competitive debut for Juventus away at Chievo Verona on Saturday August 18.

Leonardo Bonucci, who returned to Juve two weeks ago after one season at AC Milan, and Emre Can, who moved from Liverpool, both started the game, with Mario Mandzukic, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic available off the bench.

Ronaldo proved good value for the hype, scoring in the 10th minute with a neat finish after breaking a loose offside trap and closing in on goal completely unmarked.

His domestic form - despite scoring 26 goals in La Liga - was below the nearly superhuman levels that had characterised his time in Spain as Madrid finished third behind local rivals Atletico and a whole 17 points behind champions Barcelona.

Speaking to JuventusTV, as quoted by Goal, Ronaldo outlined why he chose Juve above anybody else.

"In the Champions League against Juve, a quarter-final, you score a goal and see everyone in the stadium applaud you".

"With the arrival of Ronaldo our expectations are higher for the Champions League".

The former Real Madrid talisman will earn €30 million a year in Turin and in the meanwhile, has penned a four-year deal worth a whopping €120 million.
