  • Twitter CEO Dorsey goes on Hannity to defend racist posts, Alex Jones

Alex Jones is a controversial radio and podcast host based in Austin, Texas.

The two agreed that users should mute or block accounts that offend them ― though people who feel victimized by Infowars conspiracy theories would likely remind them that Alex Jones' followers have been known to terrorize his targets. As for why, the company, similarly to Twitter, cited that Jones had not gone against the terms of their app store.

The rush of interested users comes after influential tech platforms - including Facebook, Google-owned YouTube and Apple - took their most assertive actions yet against Jones and his Infowars brand for violating their rules against hateful language.

The Infowars Official app has become the App Store's third most-downloaded news app this week after Apple removed access on Sunday to some of Jones' podcasts. The decision to completely pull the other shows, including "The Alex Jones Show" and "War Room", represents a broader effort than those made by other companies in recent days to stop disseminating material associated with Jones, whom the Southern Poverty Law Center calls "the most prolific conspiracy theorist in contemporary America".

"Twitter, for example, decided not to ban Alex Jones or Infowars", Hannity said at the opening of his show.

However, the InfoWars app is still available in Google's Play app marketplace.

Apple told The Washington Post in a statement Thursday: "We put great effort into curating the App Store to provide the very best experience for everyone". Oddly enough, the shows you can stream from the app are the same programs Apple banned from its Podcasts app, according to Buzzfeed News.

The podcast app allowed access to an extensive list of previous episodes, subjecting all of those past episodes to Apple's content rules. "And we'll continue to promote a healthy conversational environment by ensuring tweets aren't artificially amplified", Dorsey said in a series of tweets on Tuesday. A separate Twitter account for "Infowars" is also still running.

Dorsey said that when considering whether to remove extremist accounts from the site, he relies on reports from users who are experiencing or witnessing harassment and then considers the "context of everything that's happening around it".

All users agree to comply with our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines when they sign up to use YouTube.

Twitter didn't immediately respond to a request for an interview with Dorsey.
