USC Crushes Steve Sarkisian In $30 Million Wrongful Termination Lawsuit

An arbitrator ruled last week against former USC football coach Steve Sarkisian in his wrongful termination lawsuit against the university.

Sarkisian filed a $30 million lawsuit against USC claiming the school knew about his alcoholism and still fired him, which caused him mental anguish.

The case went to an arbitrator who denied every single one of Sark's claims - explaining the coach was "not terminated on the basis of any disability", but rather for misconduct in breach of his contract.

An arbitrator denied all of Sarkisian's claims, and said that California disability laws - which include alcoholism - do "not insulate the failure to control a controllable disability nor afford an employee a second chance to control a disability in the future".

An arbitrator last week ruled in favor of the University of Southern California, saying Sarkisian, 44, concealed his condition from the school.

In a statement Monday, Sarkisian said he's disappointed by the decision but will respect it and move on.

Sarkisian blamed his behavior on mixing alcohol with medication before the event.

Sarkisian was sacked as USC's head coach in October 2015 after the school became aware of several incidents in which he appeared in public or coached the team under the influence of alcohol.

However, Sarkisian also reportedly showed signs of being intoxicated during a game and at a team meeting.

Sarkisian went into alcohol rehabilitation treatment after he was sacked.

Sarkisian came to USC - where he enjoyed years of success as an assistant in the 2000s - as the man who many believed could get the Trojans back to their winning ways after the Lane Kiffin era ended.

After he was absent from a practice on October 11, 2015, and acted off at a team meeting, he was placed on a leave of absence by then-USC athletic director Pat Haden.

Since leaving USC, Sarkisian worked as an analyst and was the offensive coordinator for Alabama, and he is now entering his second season as the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator.

The 44-year-old Sarkisian went into alcohol rehabilitation treatment after he was sacked. The Trojans were off to a 3-2 start in 2015 prior to his dismissal.
