Trump has levied steep tariffs on key US allies, including the European Union, Canada, and Mexico, citing unfair trade practices and national security issues as the need for the hikes.

And now her goods are avoiding the sweeping tariffs enacted by President Trump in his trade war with China. On Friday, Beijing retaliated with mirror measures against United States imports hours after Washington introduced 25 percent trade tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods.

Clothing and shoes, like those imported by Ivanka Trump's company, were spared. In response, the country or countries affected by those tariffs impose their own fees on imports.

In the case of the China-U.S. squabble, Trump imposed aluminum and steel tariffs in early March in order to protect those American industries.

Customs at the port of Dalian, where the ship Peak Pegasus was now anchored carrying 70,000 tonnes of US soybeans, have updated their tariffs for the USA goods on Beijing's list to the higher levels, according to a soymeal buyer briefed by a customs official at the port. Soybeans, which represent a huge slice of American agricultural exports, are being targeted as well as cigarettes and dairy products, among other products.
