  • Heavy rain lashes Thai cave region where 8 boys are trapped

After hours of unconfirmed reports from sources within the rescue mission, Thai Navy Seals have just confirmed that eight boys are out - with four evacuated from the Tham Luang cave today.

The dry weather allowed workers to pump nearly a foot of water from flooded portions of the cave to help in the complicated and unsafe rescue. The rescued boys are said to be in "high spirits". They were discovered last Monday by British volunteer divers huddled on a narrow rock shelf deep within the flooded caves.

The community has also been particularly forgiving of the soccer team's assistant coach Ekapol Chanthawong, who led the team of boys aged 11 - 16 into the caves. Certificates of gratitude will also be given to all of the divers. He said he talked to Musk during his trip to Chiang Rai and thanked him for bringing his rescue equipment to Thailand for future use.

The rescue operation, which commenced on Sunday, was carried out in three phases.

"In times of crisis, when Thai people are faced with hardship, His Majesty the King and the Royal Family have always expressed concern and closely observed the situation, and have graciously provided direct assistance to all officials involved, with constant encouragement and guidance to the rescue mission", he went on.

"We have to quarantine them for a little while due to fear of infection", Osotthanakorn said.

On Tuesday, Osottanakorn said that the evacuation process had been stepped up.
