The all-new Suzuki Jimny is the fourth generation of Suzuki's iconic off-roader. We're still waiting for United Kingdom market information specifically, however it won't arrive on sale in Britain until 2019.

The vehicle measures 3,480 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width and 1,725 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,250 mm. The boxy profile with large windows and small pillars maximises visibility, while the 15-inch alloy wheels are housed in chunky cladded wheelarches.

A seven-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth is available on higher equipment grades, although full United Kingdom specs and prices are still to be confirmed. The rear seats fold down flat with the backs covered in plastic to make cleaning them easier when carrying dirty gear.

Suzuki's only confirmed one engine for the European market and surprisingly, it's not one of the firm's excellent BoosterJet turbocharged units.

Power will come from a 1.5 litre petrol engine, which Suzuki promise will offer enough torque low down for sticky off-road situations. Power is sent to all the wheels on demand via a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. As measured on outgoing NEDC fuel economy and Carbon dioxide regulations, the new Jimny claims 41.5mpg with the manual box, dipping to 37.6mpg for the auto. While the Suzuki Jimny is priced in Japan from JPY 14,58,000 to JPY 19,06,200 ( ₹ 9.06 lakh - ₹ 11.85 lakh), the Jimny Sierra is priced in the range of JPY 17,60,400 to JPY 20,62,800 JPY ( ₹ 10.94 lakh - ₹ 12.82 lakh) respectively. 4H activates the four-wheel-drive system and 4L brings in the low-range 'box for the most challenging off-road conditions.

Ground clearance comes in at 210 mm, while the latest-generation model boasts an approach angle of 37 degrees, a breakover angle of 28 degrees and a departure angle of 49 degrees. The suspension is a rigid axle setup with coil springs both front and rear. Also available, but not confirmed for Australian cars, is lane departure warning and weaving alert function (to help the driver keep alert), and high beam assist which is able to automatically switch on and off the high and low beams.

Inside, the new Jimny will be much safer and high tech than its geriatric predecessor.
