Adult-film actress Stormy Daniels was arrested at a strip club in Columbus, Ohio after allegedly touching patrons during a Wednesday night performance, according to police.

Daniels has been embroiled in a legal controversy with Trump over their alleged 2006 encounter, which he has repeatedly denied.

He said he expected his client to be released on bail and that she would be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing touching.

Adult film star Stormy Daniels was arrested on Wednesday while performing at a strip club in OH, according to her lawyer, who called the arrest a "politically motivated" setup.

Ms Daniels was arrested for allegedly letting a customer touch her on stage "in a non-sexual manner", her lawyer tweeted. "Are you kidding me?" he wrote. They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this? "There has to be higher priorities".

An Ohio law prohibits anyone who isn't a family member to touch a nude or semi-nude dancer.

Stormy Daniels was arrested at an OH strip club early Thursday after allegedly violating an "obscure" state law, per CNN-though her lawyer claims it was a set-up.

The lawyer also took to Twitter early Thursday morning, calling the arrest a "a setup & politically motivated". We will fight all bogus charges.

Avenatti said the arrest was a politically-motivated "sting operation".

"The officers also observed Ms. Clifford fondling the breasts of female patrons", Franklin County Municipal Court records show.

The documents did not indicate if the officers were in plain clothes or in uniform at the time.

Former Trump campaign senior adviser A.J. Delgado slammed the early morning arrest of Stormy Daniels on Thursday, saying it "reeks of entrapment".

CNN has reached out to the Columbus Police Department for more details.

Daniels was scheduled to perform at Sirens Gentlemen's Club on Wednesday and Thursday, according to its website.

Daniels has filed two lawsuits against Trump, one to get out of a non-disclosure agreement she had signed in October 2016 ahead of the November presidential election in exchange for the $130,000, and another for defamation.

Through White House officials, Trump has denied the affair, although Cohen has admitted paying Daniels $130,000 as part of the agreement.
