UK White Paper on Brexit's strategy to be out this Thursday.

A north-east Conservative MP has predicted that his party will be "screwed" at the next United Kingdom election unless Theresa May changes her new Brexit proposals.

The White Paper will flesh out the bones of Theresa May's proposals agreed with her Cabinet at the recent Chequers meeting - but which prompted the resignations of two senior ministers.

The PM says it honours the Leave vote and protects jobs.

"We think it is possible to negotiate independent trade policies after we leave the European Union".

The delay has been partly blamed on deep disagreements within the Conservative Party over what shape Brexit should take.

The proposals have also triggered the resignations of Dominic Raab's predecessor as Brexit secretary, David Davis, and ex-foreign secretary Boris Johnson, from the cabinet.

Brexiteers are trying to force the government to drop its Chequers compromise, and dangling the threat of voting down legislation if Theresa May doesn't budge.

The long-awaited White Paper is aimed at ensuring trade co-operation, with no hard border for Northern Ireland, and global trade deals for the UK.

Their fellow Leavers on the backbenches are clearly going to kick up a stink if Number 10 won't move, and if they choose to, they have the numbers to defeat the government time and again.

"It delivers on the vote that people gave on Brexit, it delivers the fact that we will have an end to free movement, we will have an end to the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice in the United Kingdom, we won't be sending vast contributions to the EU every year, we'll be out of the Common Agricultural Policy, out of the Common Fisheries Policy", she said.

The legislation returns to the Commons on Monday. The EU27 has been clear all along that the four pillars of the single market - the free movement on goods, services, people and capital - are indivisible.

One of the rebel amendments, signed by Jacob Rees-Mogg, former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith and ex-cabinet minister Priti Patel, demands that the United Kingdom scrap an offer to collect taxes and duties on behalf of the European Union, unless the remaining 27 member states pledge to do the same for Britain.

Other amendments would require the United Kingdom to have a separate Value-Added Tax regime from the EU and force the prime minister to table primary legislation if she wishes to keep Britain in the customs union.

The white paper repeatedly states that freedom of movement will come to an end after Brexit, but says further details on the UK's new immigration policy will be produced after the Migration Advisory Committee has released its report in September.
