Samsung’s texting app reportedly sent pictures to people’s contacts without permission

The overhaul also coincides with a new version of the Samsung Messages app, which could possibly be further conflating the matter.

Moreover, the phone leaves not a single proof about the data sent to someone else.

The issue seemingly stems from a problematic update to the Samsung Messages app, and multiple users on Reddit have complained that their entire gallery has been sent to certain contacts.

Samsung spokesperson tells the users "We're aware of the reports and the technical team is looking on to it". While Samsung hasn't released an official explanation, people who've experienced the mishap report the fault rests with Samsung Messages, Galaxy devices' default messaging app. Until then, there are two easy fixes for the concerned users: 1. The only workaround here is to disable storage permissions for Samsung Messages. However, there was record of it on tmobile logs.

A spokeswoman for Samsung Australia confirmed the company was investigating the problem but had yet to verify if it was a bug and whether Australians could be affected. It has been discovered that some devices are sending the owner's photos from the camera roll without consent.

Until a resolution is reached, Samsung owners can go to settings and revoke Samsung Message's permissions to access storage.

What's unusual though is that it does not show the files have been sent. £23pm We have to say that we love this Samsung Galaxy S8 tariff - at a time when S8 deals are falling all around, this one still somehow manages to stand out from the crowd. Others have reported their phones sending scheduled text messages too early.

The current theory seems to be that the bug is being caused by a recent RCS (Rich Communication Services) profile update that certain carriers - including T-Mobile - rolled out.

KitGuru Says: This is an very bad bug to have in your Messaging app, I think it's a nightmare scenario for many people just to have their images dumped to a random contact.
