On Wednesday, the remainder of a bourbon warehouse that partially collapsed last month came crashing down in Bardstown, Kentucky.

Bardstown Fire Department Chief Billy Mattingly provided photos of the scene, which has been off limits to reporters since the initial collapse.

WLKY says the Bardstown Fire Department is now responding to the scene, where hundreds of bourbon barrels have fallen in the building collapse. Up to half the barrels inside were affected by the first collapse, it said.

Almost 1,000 fish were found dead in Withrow Creek and the Beach Fork River near the Barton 1792 distillery in Bardstown, according to officials with the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet. The company credited the distillery team's "preparation and quick action", and notified state government environmental regulators "immediately." the statement said.

In addition, the statement said the half of the warehouse that collapsed Wednesday "was unable to be secured after the initial collapse due to worker safety concerns".

The warehouse was constructed in the 1940s, and Sazerac indicates it will likely be several weeks before the cause of the collapse is determined. Energy and Environment Cabinet spokesman John Mura told WhiskyCast in an email that it appears all whiskey spilled during the second collapse was successfully captured in two containment ponds dug after the June 22 collapse.

Nelson County Emergency Management director Joe Prewitt said last month he couldn't recall another whiskey warehouse collapse. The images show a large mound of bourbon barrels amid the splintered beams and metal roofing of the structure.

Kentucky State Police Post 4 confirms with NBC affiliate WAVE-TV that the remaining half of the Barton 1792 Distillery warehouse collapsed Wednesday.

Kentucky's bourbon sector is in the midst of a more than $1.1 billion boom that includes expanded production facilities, more storage warehouses and new tourism centers.
