All 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped for more than two weeks deep inside a flooded Thai cave have been rescued, a Thai navy SEAL unit has confirmed.
The rescue process started at 10am local time on Sunday and involved 13 worldwide divers and five Thai navy seals, who were referred to as "an all-star team" by NarongsakOsatanakorn, who is the Governor of Chiang Rai province and head of the joint command centre coordinating the rescue.
The whole world has been fixated on the unfolding drama at the cave complex in Chiang Rai province ever since news broke that flash floods had trapped 12 boys from a local football team and their coach on June 23.
There was no immediate update on the health of the remaining five who emerged from the cave on Tuesday, but Thai Navy SEALS said they were "safe".
"Miracles may happen every day but this is one for the ages", said Cornell Brooks, chief executive of the NAACP civil rights group in the United States. Nevertheless, Musk said he still sees a future for his spontaneous invention.
Scott, who's married to a Thai woman and spends three months a year in Thailand, said they are not pressing people over the interviews.
Elon Musk posted video and photos from inside the cave in Thailand where four boys and their soccer coach remain trapped.
Just before 1pm United Kingdom time, it was announced that all 12 boys and their coach were safe. Rain fell periodically throughout the three days of extractions, but pumping efforts were so successful that the amount of time the boys spent underwater was minimized, officials said.
Four people were then rescued from the caves in the first rescue stage, before being taken straight to hospital. "I felt like he was one of my own children and I wanted him to come home". The rescue effort is slowed somewhat by the fact that the team must replenish supplies and oxygen tanks that line the 2.5-mile route out of the cave.
But Musk tweeted Sunday morning that his team of SpaceX engineers didn't actually go to Thailand because rescue operations were already underway. Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha was scheduled to make a second visit to the scene late on Monday and the president of soccer's governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino, today invited the boys to the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday if they make it out of the cave in time.
Two of the boys are thought to have lung infections, but there are no serious complaints to report.
Onlookers cheered, "Hooyah moo pa!" - a reference to the name of the boys' soccer team, Moo Pa, or Wild Boars.
