  • Champions never tire of challenges- Pele congratulates Ronaldo on Juve move

Cristiano Ronaldo sent shockwaves through world football by ending his 9-year run with the reigning Champions League holders and opting to move to Italy with Juventus in a deal reportedly worth over a €100 million.

Juventus' stock price surged nearly 40 percent when the move was announced.

Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus this week, the links with Neymar and Los Blancos grew even stronger.

Thousands of fans are likely to surround the club's ground as they welcome the five-time Ballon d'Or victor to Italy.

But while the club and the auto company are separate corporate entities, individually managing their own operations and finances, the Italian USB Lavoro Privato union considers it "unacceptable" that such a large investment has gone into securing Ronaldo from the Galacticos.

The powerful Agnelli family including Juventus' president Andrea Agnelli co-own the Turin-based club and Fiat.

Privato said the money spent to bring Ronaldo to Italy's Serie A soccer league should have been spent on "car models that guarantee the futures of thousands of people, rather than enriching only one".

The independent union conducting the strike is not part of the larger national labour confederations and does not represent all workers at Melfi.

It's calling for a strike at the Melfi plant in southern Italy from Sunday to Tuesday.

"The marketing leverage that Juventus will be able to create will be significant".

He leaves as Los Blancos' all-time top scorer and a four-time Champions League victor with the team he joined in 2009. "That means more sponsors, more TV money and more prize money", he told BBC.
