The boys would have to stay in hospital for up to 10 days, hospital director Chaiwetch Thanapaisal told the news conference. Musk tweeted: "Just returned from Cave 3".

Eight of the boys were brought out on stretchers over the first two days - four on Sunday and four on Monday.

The group were taken out in three batches by a team of 13 global divers flanked by the Thai Navy SEALs, who greeted each successful rescue with a "Hooyah" on their Facebook page.

They were taken by helicopter to a hospital about 70 km (45 miles) away to join their team mates in quarantine for the time being.

The death of a former Thai Navy SEAL diver who ran out of oxygen in a flooded area of the cave on Friday underscored the dangers of the escape route.

"One person among the last five rescued and sent here Tuesday evening showed signs of some lung conditions", he said at a press conference held at Chiang Rai Prachanukroh hospital.

"I hope today we will be faster or the same speed as yesterday", Narongsak said.

"We don't see the children as at fault or as heroes".

It could be at least a week before they can be released from the hospital, he said.

He lauded the co-operation between Thai and worldwide rescuers.

After completion of the rescue effort on Tuesday night, Harris learned his own father had died.

On Tuesday, the final four boys and their coach were guided out of the cave.

"All eight are in good health, no fever. everyone is in a good mental state", Jedsada Chokdamrongsuk, permanent secretary of the public health ministry, said before all 13 had been rescued. However, doctors treating the boys said it was too soon for them to make the trip. All of them have higher leukocyte (white blood cell) levels than normal, but they have been given antibiotics to treat any infection.

The boys in the third group and their coach have been given antibiotics, and rabies and tetanus vaccines. The children were well taken care of in the cave. "Most of the boys lost an average of 2kg".

But Thai authorities have been coy on how a group of boys, many of whom could not swim and none with diving experience, could have navigated the treacherous narrow and submerged passageways of the Tham Luang complex, even with expert diving support.

But it will still be up to a week before all of the boys can hug their mums and dads. A glass wall separates the other parents from their children due to fears of infection.

"I'm happy for Thais all over the country", he said.

The rescue sparked jubilation with Thais heaping praise on the rescue team of foreign and local divers as the triumphant tagline "Hooyah" pinballed across social media.

Dr Harris is understood to be the last person to leave the cave on Tuesday, after assessing the last four boys trapped inside, along with their coach. One of the boys, 14-year-old Adul Sam-on, escaped a unsafe territory in Myanmar at the age of six when his parents slipped him over the border to Thailand. They were found by a pair of British divers more than a week later.

The boys won't attend the World Cup final.

"We will also collect all equipment used in this operation".

Prayuth said the Tham Luang cave would be closed for some time to make it safe for visitors.

"It's suggested that we might display photos during the 17 days of the mission, including clothes that the foreman in each operation wore on that day".

Derek Anderson, a 32-year-old rescue specialist with the US Air Force based in Japan, said the dozen boys, ranging in age from 11 to 16, and their coach, who were trapped for more than two weeks, were "incredibly resilient".
