It's finally here! Two Academy Award nominees in a new film that will satiate our fascination with the royal family-Margot Robbie (she was nearly unrecognizable!) and Saoirse Ronan battle it out for the English throne in the new trailer of Mary Queen of Scots.

'England does not look so different from Scotland, ' observes Ronan as she stares across a windy bay at Great Britain's southern half. There's also a historical war feel at play here, with England Scotland clashing on the battlefield in the fight for the crown.

The film's other stars include: Jack Lowden, Joe Alwyn, Gemma Chan, Martin Compston, Ismael Cordova, Brendan Coyle, Ian Hart, Adrian Lester, James McArdle, David Tennant, and Guy Pearce. However, Elizabeth's first cousin once-removed Mary Stuart (Ronan), former queen of France and widowed wife of the King of Scotland, becomes the Queen of Scots. Have a look at the trailer above and new character posters below and tell us what you think. Each young Queen beholds her "sister" in fear and fascination.

Scripted by Beau Willimon of House of Cards and directed by acclaimed theatre director Josie Rourke, the feature seems destined to drip with political intrigue and scandal. Consequently, Mary is seen as a direct threat to Elizabeth's rule, gaining public support as a attractive, tenacious monarch, standing in contrast to the irascible "Virgin Queen", Elizabeth, the last of an imminently extinct house with no heirs. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence.

Amid her attempted coup, Mary, Queen of Scots is sentenced to multiple years in prison and, eventually, execution. Mary keeps bringing up her claim to the English throne, and violence ensues.

A friendship is embittered by the pursuit of power in the trailer of Mary Queen of Scots.
