A 30-year-old woman has been arrested in the vicious Fourth of July beating of a man in his 90s who was walking in the Willowbrook neighborhood of South Los Angeles, authorities announced Wednesday, saying the incident was not "hate related".

Jones was being held Wednesday on in lieu of $200,000 bail, according to NBC Los Angeles, and jail records did not indicate an initial court appearance. He was left unable to walk along with a broken cheek bone, bruised ribs and head injuries, the station reported.

"We just lost our son", she said in Spanish through tears, "and to see him like this was unbearable".

"I didn't even bump into her kid", Rodriguez said. An eyewitness said the elderly man, later identified as Rodolfo Rodriguez, was walking down the sidewalk and he passed a woman.

Rodriguez had gone out alone for his daily walk, Mendoza said, about an hour and a half before he was going to watch the holiday fireworks with his family. Borjas said she also came under attack after she tried helping her friend and claims the mother "tried to hit me with the same rock like hit him".

Without warning, the woman hit him with a concrete block, he said, and enlisted a group of men to kick him.

"Detectives said they are also looking for several bystanders" who took cellphone video of the attack, to aid the investigation, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said. I don't know where her heart is at.

"She was yelling at him, 'Go back to your country, ' or 'Go back to Mexico, '" Borjas told the Los Angeles Times.

"How can you hurt a 92-year-old man?" said Mendoza.

Passerby Misbel Borjas told CNN she was nearly hit by a block while attempting to film the attack, and heard a woman say, "go back to your country, go back to Mexico".

Detectives are trying to determine if there are more suspects involved in the case, according to the news release.

"He is doing really bad, has a lot of bruises on his face and a broken cheekbone", a man who says he is Rodriguez's grandson wrote on a GoFundMe page created to collect funds for his medical expenses.

'I'll leave it to the law, ' he said in Spanish.

The newspaper notes that Rodriguez, who is a legal USA citizen, was released from the hospital and has been recovering at home. "What kind of threat does he pose to you, for you to do this to him?"
