Kevin Anderson, who played at the University of IL, knocked defending champion Roger Federer out of Wimbledon Wednesday.

Defending champion Federer, chasing a 21st Grand Slam title, lost a Court One epic, 2-6, 6-7 (5/7), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11 as 32-year-old Anderson became the first South African in the Wimbledon semi-finals since Kevin Curren in 1983.

Federer was 4-0 against Anderson entering the day, winning every set they'd ever played against each other. The final score in favor of Anderson: 2-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11.

Eventually, Nadal took the set and the match on serve, despite numerous attempts from Del Potro to force another break.

The Swiss superstar started off proceedings and held serve as did Anderson a game later. At 11-11, Anderson broke Federer's serve once again before capping off the upset with another big right-handed serve.

Federer was bounced out in the quarterfinals in five sets.

Nishikori, who had won only two matches in 15 meetings with the 12-time major victor, broke for 1-0 in the fourth but was broken straight back.

This feat follows Anderson's 2015 battle with Novak Djokovic, where he took the Serb to five sets in the Wimbledon round of 16 in 2015. It was only the third time in Federer's career that he lost a Grand Slam match after winning the first two sets. "I don't know how long it's going to take me [to get over it]" he said. But the 12th seed was not to be denied as he raced into the last four, hitting an impressive 40 winners on the way.

Tendulkar then invited Federer to "exchange notes" after the tournament's end, which the eight-time Wimbledon champion courteously accepted. And then came opportunity.

Eighth seed Anderson will play 2016 runner-up Milos Raonic or American ninth seed John Isner on Friday for a place in Sunday's final.

Djokovic also advanced to the semifinals, defeating Kei Nishikori, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. When Nishikori let his own racket fly in the fourth set, he wasn't chastised, which prompted Djokovic to yell "double standards" toward Ramos - drawing boos from fans. " I think I had chances, I'm not sure exactly how many".

Rafael Nadal has a bit of that on his side, with the world No.1 the sole player from the top seven in the men's rankings to reach the semi-finals. "I'm a big player, big serve".

He said: 'I felt like in the last month and a half, the level of tennis has been very close to where I would like it to be, where I'm used to having it.

Tendulkar, the former India captain widely renowned as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, was impressed by Federer's form after the 20-time Grand Slam champion was spotted praticising his forward defence during his victory over Adrian Mannarino at Wimbledon.
