Kevin Anderson beats John Isner in Wimbledon semifinals

Friday's five-set match between Kevin Anderson and John Isner has become the longest semifinal in Wimbledon history.

Fast food chain Nandos, which originated from South Africa, has pledged to give away free meals to people who share names with the two players, until Anderson is knocked out of the tournament or wins the final. Anderson won the opening set before Isner bounced back to take the next two. Isner and Anderson, both giants capable of enormous serves, just kept blasting the ball past each other, trading service and sides of the court as the rules dictated, but rarely ever competing in a compelling rally. It was the second-longest match in Wimbledon history and longest one-day match in Wimbledon history.

That didn't happen through the first 12 games of the last set, with each player holding serve to reach 6-all. The last point of the set was briefly held up as a ball boy had to be substituted after hurting his shoulder.

He fashioned three break points from the next rally and took the second, the first break in 49 games.

In a match between two of the game's biggest servers, Anderson started the match with a double-fault.

Eighth-seeded Anderson's prize for his bittersweet victory over his former USA college friend and rival is a date on Sunday with either world No.1 Rafael Nadal or fellow grand slam giant Novak Djokovic.

Given the length of this match, it may well prove hard for Djokovic and Nadal to complete their contest on Friday.

The three-time Wimbledon champion posted a video to his Instagram story of him playing marbles in the dressing room as he prepares to face Nadal.

This is the first time in the professional era that all four male semifinalists at a major are older than 30.
