Johnson says it’s not too late save Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May's government narrowly survived the latest Brexit challenge Tuesday after winning a crucial parliamentary vote. Lee resigned as justice minister in June 2018 over the government's handling of Brexit.

"A very well delivered speech from Boris but it is hopeless to expect Mrs May to deliver on any of it", said Mr Farage.

The plan has infuriated fervent Brexit supporters, who think sticking close to the bloc would limit Britain's ability to strike new trade deals around the world.

"It is as though a fog of self-doubt has descended", Johnson said.

While the House of Commons debates these texts, the European Commission is analyzing the plan for future trade and customs relations it received from the United Kingdom government, the survival of which depends largely on the response from Brussels.

Johnson told lawmakers that the government had "dithered" and failed to make the case for a free trade agreement outlined in the January 2017 speech at Lancaster House in the heady months after the referendum passed.

The prime minister's meeting with Conservative lawmakers Wednesday is seen as a last chance to rally her forces before a six-week summer recess.

"If I can say to her, I know that she wants us to talk about the positives of Brexit and I agree with her, we should be talking about the positive future for this country".

"Chequers would not be my preferred option. but I'm also clear that Conservative Party civil war is not where we need to be at this time - the threat of a Corbyn government, or no Brexit at all, has to be borne in mind".

While May's party is in disarray over the plan, European Union member Ireland also said it was focusing on the white paper, unwilling to be diverted over the changes to her Brexit plans forced through in parliament this week.

Mrs May was not present to hear Mr Johnson's statement, as she was answering questions on Brexit from senior MPs at a long-planned hearing of the House of Commons Liaison Committee.

'We never actually turned that vision into a negotiating position in Brussels and we never made it into a negotiating offer, ' he said.

Johnson was a leading Brexiteer in the 2016 European Union referendum.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, the other leading figurehead of the Eurosceptic win of the Conservative Party, described it as "the speech of a statesman".

"We have consistently voted to protect people's jobs, wages and standard of living by maintaining our place in the single market and the customs union, but if making it happen requires entering into an all-party government, so be it".

Parliament voted 305 to 301 in favour of amendment New Clause 17 (NC17) to the Trade Bill, which was submitted by Conservative MP for Bracknell, Phillip Lee.
