  • Disney and Lucasfilm will now release Indiana Jones 5 just ahead of Harrison Ford's 79th birthday

Also, Jonathan Kasdan is in the middle of signing his contract to rewrite Indiana Jones 5. The next chapter in the franchise is now set to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2021.

Harrison Ford's big screen return as adventurer Indiana Jones has been pushed back until 2021, Walt Disney Co announced on Tuesday, two years after the fifth movie in the action franchise was first scheduled to be released.

Get ready to wave goodbye to the people on the dock, because the long-awaited "Jungle Cruise" movie finally has a scheduled release date along with "Maleficent 2", as Disney stated in an updated film release schedule through 2021.

Both Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg are on board for Indiana Jones 5, although Spielberg now has his hands full with a number of other projects, including his West Side Story remake and the religious drama The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara. The delays reportedly came from key members of the production not being satisfied with the script from original screenwriter David Koepp (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).

Spielberg also has a number of films in front of "Indiana Jones", including a remake of "West Side Story".

Without a Star Wars movie on the holiday schedule, Disney is moving up its anticipated musical Mary Poppins Returns by one week from Christmas Day to Wednesday, December 19. That puts it up against Bumblebee and Aquaman, as well as a slew of other Winter releases.

Mary Poppins Returns was also bumped up a week: Instead of hitting theaters this Christmas, it'll open a week earlier on December 19. That latter date of February 12, 2021, now belongs to an untitled Marvel movie, which was originally scheduled for July.
