  • Authorities say the incident is under investigation but appears to be an accident

A man returned to his New Jersey home Monday night to find both his wife and her lover dead in the garage, after the pair apparently died of carbon monoxide poisoning while having sex, law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 NY.

His wife, Tamika Hargrave, 41, and the unnamed mechanic, 56, died from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning, according to NBC 4.

Newark Police confirmed it was called to the avenue about 8:45 p.m. Monday.

Anonymous police sources told media outlets the woman evidently agreed to have sex with the mechanic in exchange for work done on the vehicle. He said an alarm went off and he began investigating the smell to the garage where he found his wife, the mechanic and a running auto.

Johnson blamed the deaths on carbon monoxide poisoning. Sources also suggest that the wife and mechanic were inside the vehicle while having sex.

"As I tried to step to open the last garage door, I see the mechanic, he's laid out", Johnson said.

Hargrave, a mother to at least two girls, died because there were no carbon monoxide alarms in the garage, her family said. NJ.com reported that the two victims were inside the "running vehicle".

'She's just a few feet away, she's laid out. "I don't know what I'm going to do without her", her mother said. "She was everything to me". "I just want my mother back".

One of her daughters, Khalisha Johnson, told CBS she didn't understand why they hadn't been installed considering other security precautions had been taken.

"Basically she died because of carbon monoxide", Johnson said, according to Fox News.
