The collection featured two red wines, honoring Elisabeth Moss and Alexis Bledel's characters, Offred and Ofglen, as well as a white wine for Yvonne Strahovski's character, Serena Joy.

The result: By Tuesday evening, Lot18 no longer offered The Handmaid's Tale wines on their website.

Hulu's adaptation of Margaret Atwood's dystopian classic, The Handmaid's Tale has rocked all of our worlds.

Sensing an opportunity for a bit of TV-affiliated promo, online wine retailer Lot18 revealed (as told by People) that they had created three wines inspired by "three bold characters" from the show, including protagonist Offred (Elisabeth Moss), who lives a life of nearly constant, nailbiting misery.

And Serena Joy's 2016 Bordeaux Blanc was described as "sophisticated, traditional and austere..."

For instance, the Offred 2017 Pays d'Oc Pinot Noir was described as: "Completely stripped of her rights and freedom, Offred must rely on the one weapon she has left to stay in control - her feminine wiles".

Offred's name was attached to a pinot noir 'so beguiling it seems nearly forbidden to taste. MGM and Lot18 did not release a statement regarding the cancellation. Offred and other fertile handmaids are forced to have babies in an effort to help repopulate the world. Turns out tying a line of wines to a story about a brutal fascist dictatorship built on the disenfranchisement of women, rape and abuse, and a second season that some have called "torture porn", miiiiight not be a great idea.

Jul. 10, 9:04 p.m. EST Lot18 and MGM have decided not to move forward with their line of Handmaid's Tale-inspired wines, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Social media users slammed the marketing stunt as stunningly tone-deaf.
