"History has its eyes on us", said Comey on Twitter.

In the tweet, Comey said the Republican Party-led Congress has proven itself to be "incapable of fulfilling the Founders' design that "Ambition must. counteract ambition.".

On Monday, President Donald Trump held a summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland.

Former FBI director and long-time Republican supporter James Comey is urging American voters to support Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections.

"It deepens my frustration that more people, especially Republicans, aren't saying: 'You know what?"

Comey was the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation until May of past year, when the president fired him.

Comey told ABC News that he no longer considers himself a Republican.

Clinton campaign chair John Podesta said the report showed "beyond doubt" that Comey's actions weren't fair to Clinton - especially given that he didn't announce during the campaign a probe into the Trump campaign's links to Russian Federation. I will say this: "I don't see any reason why it would be".

Comey was sacked by Trump in May 2017, which led directly to the creation of a special counsel led by Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russia probe MORE to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 election. I just think they've lost their way, and I can't be associated with it. It doesn't reflect values at all.

Taking a swipe at Fox News Channel hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, both who scored post-summit interviews with Donald Trump, the disgraced ex-law enforcement leader claimed the president "owes it to our nation to sit down with a serious journalist".
